Confessions of A Yarn Addict

I must confess…I am a yarn addict.  I love the feel and different weight textures as the yarn slides through my fingers.

I enjoy buying yarns from different companies from acrylic to premium, high-end Australian Merino Wool, Yak, & Cashmere.  The higher-end yarns (many hand-dyed) are my favorite but to resell items made with these yarns is not affordable.  I will tend to use these more for my own items unless a customer specifically requests it.

My favorite over all yarn company is definitely Lion Brand because they have the most variety of types of yarns I use for personal clothing, accessories & home decor & for resale items.

I just finished today a new lapghan pattern I have been working on using Vanna’s Choice YarnStay tuned this week for the FREE patternVanna’s Choice is a premium acrylic yarn that makes your stitch patterns turn out beautifully.  The assortment of colors I truly love and I have made afghans, scarves,  pillows & a lot more with this yarn.

My FAVORITE Lion Brand acrylic yarn is their Heartland series & my favorite color is Badlands.  This extremely soft, premium acrylic yarn comes in heathered & tweedy shades inspired by the natural beauty of the American landscape. The subtle shades of this yarn suggest landmarks like the Redwood Forest, the Everglades, and Yosemite National Park. Heartland is an easy-care yarn that is perfect for garments, afghans and accessories.

A new yarn by Lion Brand that is really nice to work with is their New Basic 175 Yarn.  It is a #4 acrylic/wool yarn that is along the same texture & feel as their Scarfie yarn; which is the only #5 yarn I really like.  (You can find my Versatile Cozy Cowl made with Scarfie yarn here).  New Basic 175 is fun to make ponchos & other clothing items from and the color palette is GORGEOUS!!

Speaking of Scarfie yarn,  not only is this yarn not bulky but is very warm.  It also comes in soft, beautiful colors that create a unique self-striping ombré effect with gradual shading from one color to the next.  My favorite colors are the Cream/Taupe (used in the Versatile Cozy Cowl) & Cream/Teal.

Also from Lion Brand, I enjoy their higher-end line called the LB Collection.  From the LB Collection, I have made items with the Superwash Merino Wool Yarn & Cotton Bamboo yarn.   I am hoping to try the Silk, Alpaca, & other LB Collection yarns soon.  The Superwash Merino is an affordable, soft, #3 yarn that comes in gorgeous colors.  The Cotton Bamboo you have to try.  I LOVE the feel.

My SUPER DOOPER FAVORITE MERINO WOOL YARN?  Cleckheaton Australian Merino Wool I purchase from JoAnn Fabrics.  It is a little expensive (when not on sale) but it is soooo worth the price.  Soft, squishy, yummy….gorgeous colors too.  You can read more about this yarn on the Cleckheaton website.

Next on my list of favorite yarn companies?  Expression Fiber Arts.  The owner, Chandi, is so much fun & she makes loving yarn even more enjoyable.  Her Luster Sport Weight Yarn is heavenly.  Her company motto is Bold Creativity ~ Self-Expression ~ Paying it Forward” When you sign up for her email list, she will send you free knitting & crochet patterns every Friday & keeps you updated on sales that are happening & new yarn arrivals.  Check her out….you won’t regret it!

What are your favorite yarns and why?  I can’t wait to hear!

I am in no way paid to endorse any yarn companies I have discussed in this post.
