I named this crochet pattern after my mother, as seeing rugs reminds me of my parents’ home.  Mom has always kept rugs neatly on her floors over the years.

I love the feel & durability of the Bernat Maker Home Dec Yarn…sturdy yet soft!

PATTERN:

SKILL LEVEL:  Easy

GAUGE:           8 Stitches + 10 Rows = 4 x 4 Inches

HOOK:             K/6.5 mm

YARN:             Bernat Maker Home Dec Yarn (1 Skein – Steel Blue; Less than ¼ Skein – Cream)

SIZE:               16 ½” wide x 26” tall

 

ABBREVIATIONS:

  • CH:      Chain
  • DC:       Double Crochet
  • HDC: Half Double Crochet
  • SC:        Single Crochet
  • SL ST:      Slip Stitch
  • ST:         Stitch

 

NOTES: 

  • The CH 1 at beginning of rows does not count as a stitch.
  • Color A = Steel Blue (or main color of your choice)
  • Color B = Cream (or secondary color of your choice)
  • To change colors, add new color in last stitch of row.

 

COLOR A: 

CH 43.

Row 1:  SC in 2nd CH from hook & in each CH across.  Turn.  (42)

Row 2:  CH 1. SC in 1st ST.  DC in next ST.  (SC in next ST, DC in next ST).  Repeat across.  Turn.  (42)

Rows 3 – 16: CH 1. SC in 1st ST.  DC in next ST.  (SC in next ST, DC in next ST).  Repeat across.  Turn.  (42)

Row 17: CH 1. SC in each ST across.  In last ST, change to Color B.  Turn.  (42)

 

COLOR B: 

Row 18:  CH 1.  SC in each ST across.  Turn.  (42)

Row 19:  CH 1.  HDC in each ST across.  Turn.  (42)

Row 20:  CH 1.  SC in each ST across.  Turn.  (42)

Row 21:  CH 1.  HDC in each ST across.  Turn (42)

Rows 22 – 23:  SC in each ST across.  Change to Color A in last ST of row 23.  Turn.  (42)

 

COLOR A:

Row 63:  CH 1.  SC in each ST across.  DO NOT TURN.  (42)

 

Border:  You will now SC around the entire rug. 

    • (SC, CH 1, SC) in same ST as last SC.
    • Long edges: SC in every other ST.
    • Top & bottom: SC in every ST. In each corner: (SC, CH 1,  SC)Join with a SL ST to first SC.
    • Join with a SL ST to first SC.
OPTIONAL:  I added a row of SL ST around the entire rug to give it more of a sturdy “rug” look.  If you choose to do this:
  • After you join with a SL ST to first SC:
  • CH 1, SL ST in corner. SL ST in each SC around putting (SL ST, CH 1, SL ST) in each corner.
  • Join with a SL ST to first SL ST.
  • Fasten off & weave in ends.  Block.
